Why autism is a disability

1 min read

Autism isn’t just a different way of being.

It's a specific way of reacting and responding to the world that is typically seen as inappropriate in context by those who experience the world differently (which is most people).

We are therefore judged, ridiculed, and often expected to just "figure it out like everyone else."

Our brain wiring isn't what disables us.

It's the mismatch of what our brains need and how the world around us is structured... because it was structured to accommodate brains that function differently than ours.

If all humans had our brain wiring, societal structures would have been built to support and accommodate our needs.

But that's not the world we live in.

So we are therefore disabled.

I hope this sheds some light on autism for some of you. ❤️
