"Autistic people are black and white thinkers"
When it comes to autism, “black and white thinking” is actually more about rigidity of beliefs rather than seeing things as binary.
Essentially, whatever we believe, we believe STRONGLY.
It's not that we don't or can’t see nuance...
It's that once we formulate an opinion (usually based on a SWATH of information), it takes a LOT of new information and CAREFUL consideration for us to change our well-crafted and carefully thought out opinions.
Of course, this will not necessarily apply to all autistic people. But it does apply to many of us. And, suggesting all autistic people are “black and white thinkers” misrepresents the internal autistic experience.
