Why internalized autism and masking are fundamentally different

1 min read

Someone commented on one of my posts about internalized autism saying "That's high masking. The mask will eventually break."

Not for me.

For me, it's not my mask that breaks. It's me.

Some high maskers have become such experts at masking, that it's not even a mask anymore. It's a part of who they are. And removing the mask requires intense unlearning.

It's not something that just... happens.

But what does just happen, is heart issues. Mental health issues. Internal pain and suffering.

That's internalized autism in a nutshell.
