When sensory triggers are more than just overstimulation…

2 min read

If sensory triggers without accommodations are disabling to you, your struggles are recognized as a disability.

In other words, if you have sensory triggers that...

- Prevent you from being able to eat

- Prevent you from being able to sleep

- Prevent you from being able to work

Without accommodations or changes to your environment...

You have a disability.

And knowing this about yourself can be incredibly empowering, because now you can...

- Ask for accommodations

- Adjust your environment

- Give yourself grace for your needs ❤️

Aka... live a much happier, more comfortable life.

(I say this from experience 🤗)

Reference: The ADA defines disability as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities."

Eating... Sleeping... Working...

All of those count.
