Autism and rejection sensitivity—a theory
I have a theory about autism and rejection sensitivity...
We're not necessarily sensitive to rejection itself (ok, maybe sometimes we are )... but more often than not, it feels tied to a deep-seated fear of being misunderstood.
I think our intense "rejection sensitivity" very often stems from the perceived threat of others misunderstanding us and then mischaracterizing us as a result.
And to me, it all seems rooted in trauma. Because many of us have cPTSD from this repeatedly happening over and over and over again throughout our lives.
