Gut issues—a possible solution
If you struggle with overeating or what feels like a food addiction, this post is for you.
20 years ago, I had this issue. It plagued me for about 5 years. It was pure misery.
It turned out to be a yeast overgrowth in my gut, called candidiasis.
I learned that candidiasis can cause intense food cravings. Particularly for things high in sugar/carbohydrates (also vinegary things and cheeses).
I had intense food cravings, and what felt like an actual food addiction, for several years. It truly was pure misery.
A few years ago, I discovered a type of probiotic that’s different than the one most commonly recommended and used. This one is made of (good) yeast rather than bacteria. It’s called Saccharomyces Boulardii.
I went on a candida diet (which is essentially cutting out all simple carbohydrates) and took the saccharomyces daily along with a regular probiotic.
I'm not exaggerating when I say this combination completely healed my gut issues.
I had tried just the diet and the diet plus the regular probiotics before, and though they helped, they never fully got me past my issues. It wasn't until I added the saccharomyces when my issues finally disappeared.
I think I was on the diet/probiotic regimen for about 6 months. I was able to eat normally after that. No more cravings.
I'm sharing this because gut issues are a common issue for neurodivergent/autistic people.
If you struggle with food cravings or what feels like food addiction, I'm not saying this is definitely what’s causing them. But it may be worth looking into candidiasis and giving saccharomyces a try.
