Why my writing feels different (and why that matters)
I recently started writing my posts in short sentences instead of paragraphs, and someone just asked me about it.
So, I thought it would be helpful to explain why I do this in an article for others who are also curious.
I do this intentionally...
My posts are often extremely dense and abstract. Writing like this helps people digest my content and follow the logic to the end.
This is actually a widely used approach called "universal design."
Universal design means that modifications are built into the design of something for people who actually *need* them... but that those modifications also improve the experience for everyone.
So they are universally helpful.
(Universal doesn't literally mean it will help 100% of people... it means that it will likely help the majority.)
A common example of applied universal design is sidewalk cutouts.
They were initially designed for people with physical disabilities, but ended up improving the experience of walking on sidewalks for everyone.
So, back to how I approach writing for social media...
Although not everyone actually NEEDS text content to be in short sentences, some people do.
Especially many neurodivergent people (my main audience).
But content written like this is actually helpful for most people.
(Again, nothing is truly helpful for every single person, but this does get close.)
Short sentences give the brain room to take in each individual idea, map it to the larger picture, and ultimately follow the logic to the end.
So, if reading my content seems easier than most other highly complex content you've come across... now you know why.
Also, if you usually struggle with written content, but have found mine easy to understand... this is your sign that your brain is not the problem...
It's more than likely the way the content was written.
